Every layer can now have its own envelope, so one layer can fade away while another keeps ringing. Three buttons that used to do nothing without telling you now say so.
Added
- A separate envelope for each layer. Open PREFERENCES and set ENVELOPE to PER LAYER. Each layer then has its own Attack, Decay, Sustain and Release, and the ENVELOPE panel follows whichever layer you have selected. The releases are independent: give layer 1 a short release and layer 3 a long one, and layer 1 stops while layer 3 carries on ringing. Turning this on does not change how your existing patches sound -- all three layers start from the same settings your single envelope already had.
- A choice about what happens when every voice is busy. PREFERENCES now has VOICES: STEAL takes the oldest sounding note for the new one, which is what Texture has always done, and HOLD lets the sounding notes finish and ignores the new one instead. Worth knowing before you switch to HOLD: a note is held for as long as its slowest layer takes to fade, and Release goes up to twelve seconds, so with long releases you can run out of voices and find the keyboard stops responding until notes finish. Turn VOICES up on the GRAIN page if that happens.
